Bolaji Amusan, National President, Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria, on Friday said the association was working on improving the quality of Nigerian films.

Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the association realised the need to pace up with movies produced in the other parts of the world, in terms of quality.

According to him, a seven-member committee has been set up to proffer solutions to most of the problems encountered in the industry, while the association would ensure their suggestions are implemented.

He listed the committee members as: Antar Laniyan, Peju Ogunmola, Adebayo Tijani, Muyiwa Ademola, Razak Ojopagogo and Femi Adebayo, with Odunlade Adekola as Chairman.

He said: “Presently, we are concerned on improving the quality of our movies in terms of content, role interpretations, subtitling of films, picture productions and a whole lot of other issues.

“Very soon, this committee will come up with its suggestions and recommendations, while we are to work on them.

“We intentionally ensured that the committee members are veteran artistes, who have had enough experience on the job.”

Amusan, who became the association’s president in December 2018, said part of his projections were to ensure the artistes get a comprehensive health insurance scheme, improve upon their welfare and make the association a professional one.

He said: “This time, we want to ensure the association becomes a professional body like the Nigeria Bar Association, the Nigeria Medical Association and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers so that we can improve on our professionalism as artistes.

“This will make all artistes proud to be  members of our association.

“Efforts are in top gear to ensure our members are placed on the health insurance scheme to save us of the embarrassment each time a member is seriously sick.”
